Over the course of these tutorials I want to introduce you to the specific terminology and explain what SEO is all about....This may likely take several sessions to fully explain, however we will get there.
To start with, SEO is not just one solitary procedure, it is in fact a number of techniques that can be implemented to enhance your website's visibility to the search engines. However to begin with you need to understand how search engines operate.
Simply put, a search engine is a program that indexes and categorises web pages on the internet and then returns a result to the person performing the the search query. We have all used a search engine to look for things on the internet but how does it know what results should be displayed? In fact it returns these results by the use of an automated program called a "Spider" as the program crawls the internet looking for pages to index via access to the HTML content, another term for these programs is a "Bot" (short for robot, because the process is automated), in the case of Google their spider is called a "GoogleBot".
So what are these "Spiders" and "Bots", realy looking for?
Well there are a couple of points that are considered crucial to indexing and ranking and these are;
Relevance - How relevant is your website content to the search query entered by a potential visitor.
Linking - How many other sites link to your website
